Aquaculture, also known as aqua farming, is the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic plants.
Purpose of Aquaculture:
(a) To increase production for per capita consumption and per capita income by which National Income will be higher.
(b) Ornamental purpose—like culture of anjel fish, black molly, red sword tail, gaurami etc.
(c) Sports and game purposes-like culture of trouts and mahaseers.
(d) Available natural water resource utilization.
(e) Earning foreign exchange.
(f) Create employment opportunity.
(g) Utilisation of by-products of fish like issinglass, pearl-essence, liver oil, fish protein, fish glue etc.
(h) Controlling parasites like mosquito larvae, dengue by Larvicidal fishes (Lebisles, Gambusia).
(i) Utilisation of medicinal added value of fishery products.
